Anita Saarkessian

Anita Sarkeesian is a Canadian-American feminist media critic as well as a public speechwriter. Feminist Frequency was established by Sarkeesian. The site hosts videos which include commentary on the representations of women that are prevalent in the media and popular culture of today. Anita Sarkeesian a Canadian American media critic. She is the author and director-general of Feminist Frequency an educational non-profit site that examines the representation of women within popular stories of culture. Committed to deconstructing the stereotypes associated with women in pop culture, she works to highlight issues related to harassment targeted at women and other marginalized classes of people in the online environment. Sarkeesian holds a York University master's in social theological, philosophical and political thought. Alongside being a popular public speaker, she's given presentations at TEDxWomen XOXO Conference and United Nations Broadband Working Group. Interested in issues concerning gender identity and feminism from the age of 7, she started her website Feminist Frequency in 2009 while studying at the university. She had a plan to start an internet-based series on the gender roles in games but was the target of an online campaign to harass her. It was not enough to halt her. In fact, it made her more committed to being a feminist and a media critic. Her many notable contributions in the field of feminist are recognized with numerous prizes. Anita Sarkeesian won awards for her role as a critic of the media, and she founded Feminist Frequency. The non-profit investigates women's representation in pop culture today.
